7 Months of Art Improvement Challenge
The 7 MONTHS OF ART-IMPROVEMENT CHALLENGE is a 7-month-long challenge I made for myself to improve art fundamentals and become a better artist. It's not a course! I am sharing my journey with assignments, my studies and images, video processes, and recorded live streams where I am explaining tips and tricks I have learned on the way.

Each month is divided into 4 weeks and each week has 3 topics to study.
- The main topics to focus on during the challenge are Anatomy, Gesture/Figure Drawing, and Color and Light Studies so basically, they will be studied in depth.
- Besides that, the challenge will include such topics as Head Studies + Facial Expressions, Clothing, Composition, Perspective, and Environment Design, which are spread over the whole challenge and will be studied at a basic level.
ANATOMY
The anatomy assignments are made based on Stan Prokopenko’s free online Anatomy course. I will provide links to watch and/or download the free references provided by Proko.
___
GESTURE/FIGURE DRAWING
The Gesture/Figure Drawing assignments contain a bunch of exercises based on free resources and tutorials from the internet. This topic will help you understand how to work with shapes and silhouettes, how to better understand human forms and values, and finally, how to add dynamics and flow to your gesture drawings. You will have access to over 300 gesture drawing studies and images.
* 1st example is a gesture drawing made from a silhouette (from imagination)
** Examples 2 and 3 are the gesture drawings I made before and after the challenge.
___
COLOR AND LIGHT STUDIES
The color and light study assignments are based on the "Painting with Light and Color with Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo" course on Schoolism. I will not share any videos or images from this course since I do not own the material, but you will have access to a bunch of links to free resources that will help you better understand light and colors. Along with that, there will be exercises that will challenge you to study different types of light, how the color changes depending on the temperature, and color and lighting affects mood.
___
SECONDARY TOPICS
Along with the main topics, there will be some secondary topics that will only have a few weeks dedicated to their study.
HEAD STUDY and FACIAL EXPRESSIONS - the assignments for this topic are breaking the head into parts like the nose, lips, eyes, and overall head construction. After learning head construction, there will be an assignment that will challenge you to better understand facial expressions.
___
ENVIRONMENT DESIGN - includes assignments that focus on studying composition, perspective types, trees, clouds, water, and rocks, after which you'll have to combine them all in a nature study.
___
CLOTHING - during the challenge you will have assignments that will help you better understand fabric folds and how to draw clothing.
___
